President Moon and Prime Minister Kim: "No One Is Exempt from Quarantine Rules... Violators Must Be Held Accountable"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] President Moon Jae-in and Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum agreed on the 19th that "there can be no sanctuary in quarantine, and violations of quarantine rules must be thoroughly investigated and strict responsibility must be held," the Office for Government Policy Coordination (OGPC) reported.
According to the OGPC, President Moon and Prime Minister Kim held their weekly meeting at the Blue House on the same day and expressed "deep regret" over recent cases of quarantine rule violations. This came as some professional baseball players violated private gathering limits by holding drinking parties, and some churches held in-person services on the first weekend after the metropolitan area was placed under the highest level 4 social distancing measures, signaling a strong response to repeated violations of quarantine rules.
President Moon and Prime Minister Kim expressed concern over the COVID-19 situation, which is intensifying not only in the metropolitan area but also spreading to non-metropolitan regions, and discussed related measures. Recognizing this week as the critical peak of the fourth wave, they decided to mobilize all available government resources throughout the entire quarantine process, including ▲field inspections ▲diagnostic testing and epidemiological investigations ▲medical response.
Accordingly, starting this week, special field inspections by ministers and vice ministers will be conducted to verify compliance with quarantine rules, and support personnel such as military and police will be deployed to strengthen testing capacity by installing additional temporary screening clinics.
Meanwhile, with a full-scale heatwave forecasted this week, the power supply situation has become critical. Prime Minister Kim reported, "As the reserve power is expected to reach its lowest level this week, we will closely manage power supply and demand, actively manage demand, and expedite the commissioning of nuclear power plants currently under maintenance."
In this regard, additional support such as cooling vests and shade tents will be provided to COVID-19 screening clinics, and protection for vulnerable groups will be strengthened through safety monitoring of elderly living alone and surveillance of outdoor workers.
