Lee Sang-min on Yoo: "Presidential candidates' mutual slander crossing the line, will hold accountable"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Sang-min, a member of the Democratic Party and chair of the election management committee, stated on the 19th regarding the negative exchanges occurring during the presidential candidate primary, "The election committee will thoroughly investigate and hold accountable according to the severity."
At the party's election committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Lee said, "There are quite a few cases where the mutual slander or verbal attacks between candidates have gone beyond a reasonable intensity."
He added, "It is very concerning that recent actions crossing the line and potentially violating election laws are taking place within each campaign. The Democratic Party must strictly adhere to not only the Public Official Election Act but also the election-related regulations set by the party, and must practice fair play as well as nice play."
On the same day, the election committee decided to discipline five individuals who spread false preliminary primary vote percentages. Two were referred to the Ethics Tribunal due to the seriousness of the matter, while the remaining three were given warnings as their actions were deemed minor. Among them, one was referred to the Personnel Committee because they are a party official.
After the election committee meeting, floor spokesperson Han Junho told reporters, "Simple acts of forwarding were met with caution and warning measures, but those who added personal opinions and slandered opposing candidates were sent to the Ethics Tribunal," and added, "All four circulating versions related to vote percentages are false."
