Suncheon City Extends Touring Exhibition of Old Photographs Until Year-End Due to Citizen Response
Exhibition Tour at Suncheon Station, Seoul Suncheon Promotion Center, and Local Middle and High Schools Until Year-End
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 19th that it will extend the operation of the "Suncheon Old Photo Traveling Exhibition," which was held for the past three weeks, until the end of this year due to the enthusiastic response from citizens.
Under the theme "The Background of Our Lives is Suncheon!", this exhibition was displayed for one week each at the City Administration Archive starting from the 23rd, followed by the Suncheon Bay Wetland Center and the Suncheon City Hall lobby.
The exhibition, composed of 10 categories including old buildings and streets of Suncheon in the 1960s and 70s, administration, Dongcheon, and the Saemaul Undong (New Village Movement), stimulated citizens' curiosity and evoked nostalgia, receiving great acclaim.
About 2,000 citizens viewed the exhibition, and some elderly visitors could not take their eyes off the photos for tens of minutes, reminiscing about the past.
The extended traveling exhibition will start at Suncheon Station on the 19th, and from next month, it will be displayed for two months at the Suncheon Promotion Hall inside the UNESCO Hall located in Myeongdong, Seoul. Afterwards, it is planned to be exhibited mainly at local middle and high schools that wish to participate.
A city official said, "By exhibiting Suncheon's old photos in Myeongdong, Seoul, we expect to enhance the hometown affection of expatriates and increase the promotional effect of Suncheon," adding, "We hope that the exhibition at middle and high schools will provide many students with an opportunity to study Suncheon's modern and contemporary history."
