On the 18th (local time), according to Fox Business and others, Malwarebytes Labs warned in a blog post that "there have been frequent incidents of scams using Elon Musk's reputation to carry out fraudulent activities via email or social media."
They reported that scammers post fake tweets on Twitter claiming Elon Musk is giving away free watches or Bitcoin, or send spam emails to steal personal information such as addresses and credit card numbers.
According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), over the past six months, scammers impersonating Elon Musk have obtained $2 million worth of cryptocurrency through giveaway scams.

Malwarebytes Labs explained that since October last year, about 7,000 people have reported cryptocurrency investment scams to the FTC, with total damages exceeding $80 million. The number of reports has increased nearly 12 times compared to the same period last year.
