Startup and Venture Ecosystem Grows 2.8 Times Compared to 10 Years Ago... Announcement of the 'Comprehensive Startup and Venture Ecosystem Index'
Composite Index Comprising Three Elements: Companies, Investors, and Government
Last Year's Composite Index Rose Approximately 2.8 Times Compared to 2010, Reaching 284.7
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] The Ministry of SMEs and Startups recently announced the ‘Comprehensive Index of Startup and Venture Ecosystem’ developed through a research project and stated on the 19th that it will hold a seminar with private experts.
Earlier this year, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups initiated a research project titled ‘Development of a Quantified Comprehensive Index of Startup and Venture Ecosystem’ in collaboration with Korea Venture Investment Corp. to understand trends in the startup and venture industry and ecosystem.
The research was conducted jointly by Dr. Kim Sunwoo’s research team at the Science and Technology Policy Institute (hereafter STEPI), Professor Ko Hyukjin of Korea University of Technology and Education, and Professor Ahn Yonggil of Seoul National University of Science and Technology. The scope of analysis included not only domestic startup and venture companies but also investors and the government, which influence the overall startup and venture ecosystem.
The comprehensive index model of the startup and venture ecosystem consists of detailed indices targeting the main ecosystem actors: startups and venture companies, investors, and the government, divided into corporate, investment, and government indices. Each detailed index value was calculated annually from 2010 to 2020 using a composite stock index method, with 2010 as the base year.
The comprehensive index values derived over the past decade since 2010 showed a steady increase every year. In particular, the year 2020 recorded a value of 284.7, approximately 2.8 times higher than the base year.
The upcoming seminar will discuss not only the development background and detailed analysis results of the ‘Comprehensive Index of Startup and Venture Ecosystem’ but also future development plans for the startup and venture ecosystem together with private experts from the venture and startup sectors.
Following a keynote speech on the background and key results of the index development, thematic presentations explaining the detailed analysis will follow.
