Naju City Holds Donation Agreement Ceremony for School Garden Produce with 5 Organizations
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Han-hyuk Lee] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 19th that it recently held a “Agreement Ceremony to Expand Donation Culture Using School Garden Agricultural Products,” involving five institutions including the Naju Agricultural Promotion Foundation, Noan Nam Elementary School, and three child welfare facilities.
The five institutions will join forces to promote the public and educational values embedded in local food through school garden agricultural products and foster community coexistence through sharing and donations.
They pledged continuous mutual cooperation on six matters, including “education on school garden cultivation techniques and supply/donation of agricultural products,” “improvement of basic food rights for local children,” “education on healthy food culture,” and “public interest activities using local food.”
The Public Meal Support Center of the Naju Agricultural Promotion Foundation will purchase garden agricultural products such as eggplants and cucumbers grown directly by students of Noan Nam Elementary School and supply them free of charge as ingredients to child welfare facilities (Ehwah Infant Home, Baekminwon, Geumseongwon).
For the students, plans are in place to promote the importance of domestic agricultural products and the formation of healthy eating habits through education on cultivation techniques and food culture related to garden agricultural products.
In particular, the elementary school students are expected to donate all proceeds from the sale of agricultural products to Ehwah Infant Home, providing a meaningful opportunity to personally practice and realize the value of sharing with neighbors and the public interest of agriculture.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “This will be a precious opportunity for young students to learn and practice the importance of agriculture, true coexistence, and donation culture,” adding, “We will continue to strive to discover and expand various public interest activities mediated by agriculture and local food.”
