Gyeonggi-do Attracts Japan's Arubak Group R&D Center to Seongnam... 30 Billion KRW Investment
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has succeeded in attracting a new research and development (R&D) center of ULVAC Group, a world-leading Japanese company in semiconductor and display vacuum equipment.
On the 19th, Gyeonggi Province announced that on the 15th it signed a lease contract to establish a new R&D center at the Global R&D Center located in Bundang, Seongnam, with Korea ULVAC, an affiliate of ULVAC Group.
The new R&D center, with an investment of 30 billion KRW, will be responsible for the development design and software development of semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment.
ULVAC already operates six factories including Korea ULVAC and PS Technology within the foreign investment complex in the province.
This investment was made as Korea ULVAC pushed to establish a new R&D center to accelerate the development of cutting-edge equipment and localization of equipment, following large-scale investments by Korean semiconductor companies such as Samsung and SK Hynix.
Through the establishment of this R&D center, Korea ULVAC plans to create more than 80 new jobs including researchers and secure excellent high-level talent in the field of semiconductor and display vacuum equipment.
With the establishment of the new R&D center, Korea ULVAC will be able to handle everything from development to delivery domestically.
Additionally, by conducting research and development near client companies, it plans to promote the advancement of domestic semiconductor technology and localization of related equipment.
Founded in 1995, Korea ULVAC has been based in Gyeonggi Province and has supplied semiconductor and display-related equipment to domestic clients.
Lee Min-woo, head of the Investment Promotion Division of the province, said, "Attracting an R&D center is a great opportunity to localize excellent technologies of foreign-invested companies, hire outstanding personnel, and promote win-win cooperation between foreign-invested and domestic companies," adding, "We will continue to put more effort into attracting foreign-invested companies in the R&D sector."
