Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Sell 494,158 Units in Europe in H1... Market Share Ranks 4th
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hyundai Motor Company and Kia sold approximately 490,000 units in the European market during the first half of this year (January to June), marking a 40% increase compared to the previous year and rising to the 4th place.
According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) on the 16th, Hyundai and Kia sold a total of 494,158 units in Europe during the first half of this year. This represents a 40.1% increase compared to the same period last year, surpassing the overall European finished car market growth rate of 27.1%.
Hyundai sold 242,922 units, up 39.3% year-on-year, while Kia sold 251,236 units, up 40.8%. The resulting market shares were 3.7% for Hyundai (an increase of 0.3 percentage points) and 3.9% for Kia (an increase of 0.4 percentage points), with a combined market share of 7.6% (an increase of 0.7 percentage points).
The European market share also rose by one rank. Hyundai and Kia ranked 4th, following the Volkswagen Group (26.2%), Stellantis (21.3%), and Renault Group (8.7%), surpassing the BMW Group (7.2%).
This sales growth was driven by sport utility vehicles (SUVs). For Hyundai, the Tucson sold 77,050 units and the Kona 59,184 units, ranking first and second respectively. For Kia, the Ceed sold 61,925 units, while the Sportage (49,497 units) and Niro (43,342 units) ranked second and third respectively.
Among eco-friendly models, the Niro sold 43,342 units, the Kona 38,152 units, and the Tucson 27,563 units. For electric vehicles (EVs), five models (Kona, Ioniq Electric, Ioniq 5, Soul, and Niro) combined sold 55,875 units, a 94.6% increase compared to the previous year. The Ioniq 5 recorded cumulative sales of 1,408 units over two months since May.

Meanwhile, Hyundai and Kia's sales in Europe for June totaled 105,656 units, a 51.7% increase compared to the previous year. This figure exceeds the overall European market sales growth rate of 13.3% for June. Hyundai sold 54,946 units, up 56.8%, and Kia sold 50,710 units, up 46.5%.
