Naju-si Awarded 'Ministerial Prize' in National Local Government Job Competition
[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Kang In-gyu) announced on the 16th that it won the Special Award in the Public Announcement Category of the ‘2021 National Local Government Job Awards’ hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
With this award, the city achieved the great feat of securing a financial incentive of 55 million KRW along with a commendation from the Minister of Employment and Labor.
The National Local Government Job Awards comprehensively evaluate the job creation performance of 243 local governments nationwide, based on the job goals and measures publicly announced by the heads of local governments during their terms.
Introduced in 2010, the ‘Regional Job Target Public Announcement System’ selects and awards excellent local governments through two rounds of evaluations in each category to inform the public about policy efforts and achievements such as the previous year’s job performance and to raise social interest.
The city has been striving under the vision of ‘Opening the Future Together, Naju as the Job Hub of Honam’ by creating customized jobs in the energy sector, its main industry, generating jobs step-by-step for various social groups, and fostering cooperation with job-related organizations.
In particular, it established a foundation for future job creation by nurturing core talents for the Energy Valley through attracting institutions such as Korea Energy Engineering University and Polytech Naju Power Technology Training Center.
Additionally, the city was highly evaluated for its efforts in building regional employment governance, including the construction of the ‘Comprehensive Job Support Center’ that provides one-stop employment services by concentrating job-related organizations, activating jobs in response to the COVID-19 crisis, and hosting non-face-to-face job festivals.
Previously, the city was the only basic local government in Gwangju and Jeonnam to be selected last year as a ‘Korea Job Merit Institution’ by the Presidential Committee on Jobs.
It also won the top prize in the job creation category of Jeollanam-do, blooming the results of customized job policies that were prioritized to stabilize local employment and revitalize the Energy Valley.
Mayor Kang In-gyu said, “The excellent results in job creation every year are thanks to the collaboration and efforts of all sectors including industry, academia, research, and government in the region,” and added, “We will promote the revitalization of the employment market, which has been contracted due to COVID-19, by establishing a solid job foundation linked to the region’s core industries.”
