Storage Capacity of 'Galaxy Watch4' Series Doubled to 16GB
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics' new smartwatch series, the ‘Galaxy Watch4,’ will have double the storage capacity compared to previous models.
On the 15th (local time), IT specialist media SamMobile reported that Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Watch4 series will feature 16GB of internal storage.
According to SamMobile, Samsung will apply 16GB of storage?double the previous 8GB?to both the ‘Galaxy Watch4’ and the ‘Galaxy Watch4 Classic.’ SamMobile explained that this move is intended to accommodate a wider variety of apps following Samsung’s recent platform shift from Tizen to Google's Wear OS.
With the new OS for Galaxy Watch, 'One UI Watch,' developed jointly by Samsung and Google, when an app is newly installed on a smartphone, the smartwatch version of the app is automatically downloaded to the watch as well. Changes made to app settings on either the smartphone or the Galaxy Watch are immediately reflected on the other device. For example, if a specific call or message is blocked on the Galaxy Watch, it will also be blocked on the smartphone.
The Galaxy Watch4 series will adopt the 5-nanometer (nm) Exynos W920 chipset, marking a change in the chipset as well. Compared to the Exynos 9110 used in previous Galaxy Watch series, this chipset reportedly offers up to 1.25 times faster CPU performance and 8.8 times improved graphics performance. The RAM is 1.5GB, though this is not new as it has been applied to some older models.
The Galaxy Watch4 series will be unveiled alongside the new foldable smartphones ‘Galaxy Z Fold3’ and ‘Galaxy Z Flip3,’ as well as the wireless earbuds ‘Galaxy Buds2’ at the Galaxy Unpacked event on the 11th of next month, with official sales expected to begin on August 27.
According to earlier reports, the Galaxy Watch4 Classic will be released in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. Both Galaxy Watch4 Classic models are made of stainless steel including a rotating bezel, and come in black and white colors. In contrast, the Galaxy Watch4 will be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes and made of aluminum.
The display size of the watches is 1.36 inches for the 44mm and 46mm models, and 1.19 inches for the 40mm and 42mm models. Battery capacity is 361 milliampere-hours (mAh) for the 44mm and 46mm models, and 247mAh for the 40mm and 42mm models. Both models are reported to include features such as body composition analysis, sleep and heart rate monitoring, and blood oxygen level monitoring.
