Developer 'Reverse Recruitment' Trend... 44% of All Job Postings Are for Developers
Career Platform Wanted: 1 in 10 Developer Job Seekers Receive Interview Offers from Companies First
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] As digital transformation (DT) rapidly takes place across industries, the demand for IT developers has surged sharply, leading to ongoing competition to attract developers.
According to data on developer recruitment released on the 15th by WantedLab Inc., an AI-based career platform company, developer job postings have accounted for more than 40% of all Wanted job postings over the past three years.
Various movements regarding developer treatment have been observed in the recruitment market, resulting in a rapid increase in related applicants and job postings. Developer job postings on Wanted have consistently made up more than 40% of all Wanted job postings over the past three years, and this year, when a developer recruitment boom is occurring, they account for nearly half at 44%.
Above all, the proportion of match-up applications where companies propose interviews among all applications increased from 1% in 2018 to 10% as of June 2021. This means that 1 out of 10 candidates receives an interview proposal from companies first, a case of 'reverse recruitment,' reflecting the current recruitment market trend where companies do not wait for candidates to apply.
The number of non-developers with coding skills is also increasing. The proportion of liberal arts job groups learning development skills has nearly doubled from 2019, with management at 11%, marketing 5%, HR 2%, and sales 1%, to this year’s 19% in management, 9% in marketing, 6% in HR, and 5% in sales. The development-related skills held by non-developers include Python, SQL, CSS, and HTML, with more than one development skill possessed among them.
A WantedLab official said, "The recruitment shortage even among junior developers is an indicator that the industry is willing to hire entry-level developers and nurture them into skilled developers," adding, "WantedLab uniquely holds acceptance data in the recruitment market, and we will further enhance our AI engine using this data to reduce mismatches in the developer recruitment market."
