On the 13th (local time), Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated on Twitter that more than half of all adults in the EU have finished receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), as of the 13th, 63.9% of adults in the 27 EU member countries have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and 44.9% have completed the full vaccination.
However, the Brussels Times reported that since each member country reports related figures over different periods and it takes time for the ECDC to reflect collected data in the website statistics, there may be discrepancies between the latest figures from each country and the ECDC data.
President von der Leyen also emphasized that vaccination is important to stay safe from variant viruses and to avoid new COVID-19 outbreaks.
