SKC Exports Eco-Friendly Plastic 'SKC Eco Label' Technology to the United States
Recyclable PET Labels... Creating an Eco-Friendly Plastic Ecosystem
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SKC is expanding the market for recyclable PET bottle packaging centered on SKC Eco Label in collaboration with Eastman of the United States. Eastman is a global materials company that supplies plastic raw materials used in portable premium water bottles, medical devices, home appliances, cosmetic containers, and PET bottle heat-shrink films.
On the 13th, SKC signed a patent licensing and eco-friendly plastic ecosystem creation memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to SKC Eco Label with Eastman. The agreement covers North America and Europe and is valid for 20 years. Once the main contract is signed, the adoption of recyclable SKC Eco Label concept products in the PET bottle packaging market is expected to increase rapidly.
SKC Eco Label is the world's first PET bottle heat-shrink packaging material that can be recycled together with PET bottles. It applies ink that is washed off during the recycling process on the same material as PET bottles, allowing it to be recycled together with PET bottles. It is environmentally friendly as it does not cause pollution from disposal and increases recycling.
SKC Eco Label received official certification from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) in the United States in July 2016, and market demand continues to grow.
Until now, SKC and Eastman have each made efforts to develop recyclable packaging materials to improve PET recyclability. Through this SKC Eco Label patent licensing, the two companies have agreed to cooperate to enhance recyclability. Furthermore, SKC and Eastman will seek areas where they can collaborate to strengthen the eco-friendly plastic ecosystem.
