On the afternoon of the 13th, Lee made these remarks on the YouTube channel JTBC's 'Shin Ye-ri's Night Talk,' reflecting on the resignation process of former Minister Cho from the perspective of a member of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee two years ago.
He said, "I still believe that former Minister Cho clearly has responsibilities to bear, but I also think that the social condemnation and prosecution investigation against him were excessive and over the top."
When asked, "Do you mean it was excessive compared to the mistakes he made?" he replied, "It was much more excessive. They almost made him a scapegoat. They probably wouldn't have attacked even a traitor that harshly."
Lee, who served as a member of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee during the 20th National Assembly, declared he would not run in the general election after feeling political disillusionment during the 'Cho Kuk phase' at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee's national audit in October 2019.
