Democratic Party Lawmaker Yang Hyang-ja, Who Received 'Expulsion' Decision, Submits Voluntary Resignation Letter
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yang Hyang-ja, a member of the National Assembly who was expelled by the Democratic Party of Korea Central Party Ethics Committee, has voluntarily left the party.
According to local political circles on the 13th, Representative Yang submitted her resignation from the party on the same day.
This comes just one day after the Ethics Committee decided to expel her in connection with allegations of sexual crimes involving a special advisor at her Gwangju regional office.
The Ethics Committee reportedly considered factors such as Yang’s secondary harm by giving interviews denying any sexual violence in the media, and her attempt to persuade the victim by offering job placement assistance.
The resignation from the party takes effect immediately upon submission and may result in restrictions on future re-entry into the party. Even if she voluntarily leaves, all disciplinary records remain with the Ethics Committee.
