View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Korea Corus announced on the 13th that the validation batch quantity of the Russian-made COVID-19 vaccine 'Sputnik Light,' shipped on the 9th, arrived in Russia on the 11th. The Russian sovereign wealth fund (RDIF) will conduct quality verification on this shipment and deliver the results within 20 days.
Validation is a procedure that guarantees and verifies whether a specific process continuously produces products that meet established specifications and quality factors. It is the final stage in contract manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.
Korea Corus previously shipped validation batch quantities for the first and second doses of Sputnik V in April and received verification locally in Russia. Once the local quality verification for the Sputnik Light vaccine is completed, it is expected that commercial shipment of finished Sputnik vaccines will be possible by August at the latest.
The Sputnik Light vaccine is a COVID-19 vaccine similar to the existing two-dose Sputnik V vaccine but requires only one dose. Its efficacy rate is 79.4%. Although its preventive effect is slightly lower than that of Sputnik V, the company explains that it is optimized as a vaccine for herd immunity due to higher production yield.
