'Egg Program' Operated... 20 Startups Selected in Eco-Friendly Fields Including Low Carbon, Battery, and Waste Plastic
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Innovation has partnered with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Kwon Chil-seung) and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (President Kim Yong-moon) to support the growth of startups in the scale-up phase (3 to 7 years old).
On the 13th, SK Innovation announced that it will participate in the "Scale-up Package - Large Corporation Collaboration Program," hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Startup Promotion Agency, to expand the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) ecosystem. This program was newly established to support startups by providing large corporations' infrastructure, know-how, and investment connections, enabling startups to grow alongside large corporations.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Startup Promotion Agency operate a collaboration program selecting a total of 50 startups across three fields: ▲Eco-friendly ▲Digital ▲Lifestyle. SK Innovation will join the eco-friendly field. This decision aligns with the recently announced green strategy of its financial story, aiming to socially realize it through this program.
The eco-friendly field program in collaboration with SK Innovation will be operated under the name "Egg Program," symbolizing "SK and green startups creating together." It plans to select 20 companies possessing technologies and capabilities focused on eco-friendly themes such as low carbon, batteries, and plastic waste recycling.
The recruitment announcement began on the 6th via the YouTube channels of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Startup Promotion Agency.
Among these startups, SK Innovation will provide joint commercialization opportunities by collaborating with SK Innovation’s affiliated business subsidiaries through open innovation workshops. The fields eligible for joint commercialization include ▲Eco-friendly items for gas station platforms ▲Plastic waste collection and recycling ▲Electric vehicle battery recycling ▲Low-carbon technologies applied to production facilities, all contributing to the social realization of SK Innovation’s green-centered financial story.
Additionally, SK Innovation plans to explore ways to increase the success potential of these startups through impact funds and joint investments. Utilizing SK Innovation’s diverse infrastructure, it will support scale-up packages including eco-friendly business analysis support, technical consulting, education and in-depth consulting, and ESG certification support. It will also assist the growth of scale-up green startups by introducing outstanding companies at SK Group networking events such as SOVAC and seminars. Furthermore, SK Innovation will leverage its internal and external promotional channels to maximize marketing, publicity, and brand value.
