Yeosu COVID-19 Cluster Infection Spread 'Emergency'
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Cluster infections of COVID-19 continue to occur in the Yeosu area of Jeollanam-do, putting the quarantine authorities on high alert.
Yeosu City announced on the 12th that seven people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 over the weekend since the 10th, increasing the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Yeosu to 249.
Among the newly added confirmed cases over the weekend, six were infected through contact with confirmed cases from other regions or within the local area.
The 243rd confirmed case, who tested positive the day before, is believed to have been infected after contact with the 241st confirmed case, an employee of a restaurant previously visited by a confirmed case from Gwangju.
The 244th confirmed case was a contact of a confirmed case from a sauna and tested positive while under self-quarantine.
The 245th to 248th confirmed cases are understood to have been infected after contact with confirmed cases from other regions, including Hwaseong 1810 and Gimhae 973.
The 249th confirmed case is also reported to be related to contact with a confirmed case from another region.
The quarantine authorities are conducting epidemiological investigations, including tracing local movement routes, to determine the exact infection routes.
