View original image[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] The 'trendsetter' Park Min-ji (23, NH Investment & Securities) has achieved her sixth win in the shortest period.
On the 11th, at the newly established KLPGA Tour event Daebo House D Open (total prize money 1 billion KRW) held at Seowon Valley Golf Club in Paju, Gyeonggi Province (par 72, 6,639 yards), she shot 6 under par in the final third round to secure a come-from-behind victory by 2 strokes (16 under par 200 strokes). This marks her sixth win of the season and her tenth career victory since winning the McCol·Monapark Open on the 20th of last month. Adding the winner's prize of 180 million KRW, she has accumulated 1.128 billion KRW this year.
Park Min-ji is the first player in KLPGA Tour history to achieve six wins and surpass 1 billion KRW in prize money in July. Winning six times in a single season is the fifth occurrence in history, following Shin Ji-ae (33) in 2007, Seo Hee-kyung (35, retired) and Shin Ji-ae in 2008, and Park Sung-hyun (28) in 2016. She has won six titles in 11 tournaments this year, tying Shin Ji-ae's record for the most wins in the fewest tournaments. Her next goals are to break Shin Ji-ae's 2007 record for most wins in a season (9 wins) and Park Sung-hyun's 2016 record for highest prize money (1.33309 billion KRW).
Starting from a two-stroke tie for second place, Park Min-ji collected seven birdies (one bogey). She energized the course with her first birdie on the 3rd hole (par 5) and 'stepping stone birdies' on the 6th and 8th holes, and steadily added birdies on the 12th, 14th, and 16th holes in the back nine. Although she allowed Seo Yeon-jung (26, Yojin Construction Industry) to tie for the lead with a bogey on the 17th hole (par 3), she secured the victory with a birdie on the final 18th hole (par 4). She said, "Winning is the goal in any tournament," and added, "I will challenge the record for the most wins domestically."
