The newly appointed standing commissioner Kim graduated from Yongmun High School and Seoul National University with a degree in law, and earned a Ph.D. in law from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has served as an associate professor at Kookmin University College of Law and as a judicial research officer at the Supreme Court. He is currently a professor at Korea University Law School. The term of office for the Financial Services Commission standing commissioner is three years.
