Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Discusses 'Introduction of Remote Inspection System for Foreign Vessels' at International Conference
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 11th that it will attend the '7th Committee on Implementation of Conventions' held virtually by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) from the 12th to the 16th to discuss the introduction of remote Port State Control (PSC) and other matters.
Port State Control is a system in which each country inspects foreign vessels entering its ports to ensure that their structure, equipment, and crew qualifications comply with international standards for coastal safety and marine environmental protection. Previously, inspectors boarded foreign vessels directly for inspections, but due to the spread of COVID-19, this meeting will discuss ways to conduct Port State Control remotely.
They will also discuss measures to enhance the effectiveness of the 'Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS),' which inspects the implementation status of international conventions by IMO member states, by preparing detailed guidelines for audit preparation methods. Additionally, they plan to share major maritime accident cases since 2010 and discuss setting deadlines for submitting accident reports to promptly establish measures to prevent recurrence.
