Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority and Yeosu Cheonggwa Jointly Conduct Special Port Safety Inspection
A total of 60 sessions conducted for 48 port sites and resident companies
Overall workplace safety management level inspection and safety training conducted
[Asia Economy] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Min-sik) announced on the 6th that it conducted a special safety inspection throughout June as part of safety measures at Yeosu Gwangyang Port workplaces.
This special inspection was carried out in response to recent consecutive safety accidents involving workers within the port.
The authority formed an inspection team in cooperation with the Yeosu Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, including external safety experts from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the Port Training Institute, and the Dockworkers' Union, conducting a total of 60 special inspections targeting 48 port workplaces and tenant companies in the hinterland complex.
During the period, the overall safety management level of workplaces was checked, including the availability of related safety manuals such as emergency contact networks and accident communication systems, safety rule education and log writing before work, deployment of workers in pairs, wearing of personal protective equipment, and strengthening the placement of safety managers and signalers.
The authority plans to share the results of this safety inspection with each workplace and continuously implement improvement measures for any deficiencies.
Additionally, the authority conducted special safety education for port workers alongside the inspection, focusing on safety enhancement measures to prevent collisions, entrapment, and falls, especially considering the mixed presence of manpower and equipment at cargo handling sites.
President Cha Min-sik stated, “Port workplaces are places where momentary negligence can lead to major accidents,” urging active cooperation in safety management from operators, stevedores, tenant companies, and the Dockworkers' Union to prevent safety accidents.
