As heavy monsoon rains fell on the southern regions on the 6th, damages have been occurring one after another, including one death and 120 disaster victims so far.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of 11 a.m. today, the deceased is a woman in her 60s who died due to flooding of a house near the Daheungsa Valley in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, early this morning.
Also, 120 disaster victims from 193 households occurred in Haenam, Gangjin, Jindo, and other areas in Jeollanam-do. Among them, 5 have returned home, but 115 are known to be staying in temporary shelters and other facilities.
Citizens who heard this news expressed concern. Mr. Lee, a company employee in his 30s living in Seoul, said, "It's literally a 'water bomb,'" adding, "It seems disaster victims will emerge due to the sudden heavy rain."
Another office worker in his 40s, Mr. Kim, emphasized, "It seems like a recurring event every year, but I hope the government responds properly this time."

View original imageFacility damages also occurred due to the heavy rain that day. Immediately, 7,572 hectares of farmland, 8 houses, and 35 commercial buildings were submerged in various parts of Jeollanam-do, and 128 households in Suyeong-gu, Busan, experienced power outages.
Also, as the heavy rain continued, one subway line connecting Suncheon and Gwangju Songjeong was suspended. Eleven flights at three airports including Gimpo, Ulsan, and Yeosu, and 40 passenger ships on 24 routes are being controlled.
Jeon Hae-cheol, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and head of the Central Disaster Headquarters, said, "To prevent casualties, strengthen monitoring of areas at risk of collapse such as landslides and steep slopes, and actively evacuate residents in preparation for flooding in coastal lowlands and river overflows."
