BAT "Significant Reduction in Smoking-Related Diseases Proven When Switching from Heated Tobacco Products to 'Glo'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] BAT Korea announced on the 5th that a study found that when smokers completely switch from smoking to BAT's heated tobacco product 'glo,' exposure to toxic substances and potential risk indicators related to smoking-related diseases significantly decrease.
The results, published in the medical journal The Journal of Internal and Emergency Medicine, confirmed through a 6-month analysis within a total 12-month study that switching from continuous smoking to using glo causes statistically significant changes in various harmful exposure biomarkers (BoE) and potential harm biomarkers (BoPH).
In particular, most biomarkers in the group of participants using glo showed a decrease in levels similar to those who completely quit conventional cigarettes.
Measurements of harmful substances in users who switched to glo showed statistically significant changes across a wide range of areas, including ▲a marked reduction in lung cancer risk biomarkers ▲a significant decrease in white blood cell counts, an inflammatory marker indicating cardiovascular disease risk and other smoking-related illnesses ▲improvement in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and reduction in cardiovascular disease risk ▲improvements in two key lung health indicators ▲and improvements in oxidative stress markers associated with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and various other smoking-related diseases.
David O'Reilly, Head of Scientific Research at BAT, said, "These study results support the potential for harm reduction when smokers switch to glo," adding, "They demonstrate that reducing exposure to harmful substances can also lower the likelihood of developing smoking-related diseases."

Dr. O'Reilly emphasized, "It is very encouraging that the potential harm biomarkers of glo users are similar to the levels seen in those who have completely quit conventional cigarettes, meaning that glo's potential harm reduction effects have been scientifically verified more thoroughly." He added, "These study results align with BAT's corporate goal of 'A Better Tomorrow,' which aims to mitigate impacts on consumer health."
