Seodaemun-gu Presents Certificates of Appreciation to 12 Residents Registered for Organ Donation in the First Half of This Year
Expansion of Honors and Support for Long-Term Organ Donation Hopefuls Following Last Year's Ordinance Amendment
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) recently awarded certificates of appreciation to 12 residents who registered as long-term organ donors in the first half of this year.
This was the first such event since the district revised the "Ordinance on Encouraging Registration of Organ Donation Wishes in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul" on December 30 last year to promote the culture of organ donation and expand support and recognition for prospective donors.
The district held an award ceremony recently at the Seodaemun-gu Public Health Center, personally presenting certificates to four attendees and delivering them individually to the remaining eight.
Lee Jun-young, director of the Seodaemun-gu Public Health Center, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Despite the decline in organ donation registrations due to the frozen social atmosphere caused by COVID-19, you have given precious hope to those desperately waiting for organ transplants."
Seodaemun-gu council member Ahn Han-hee also said, "We thank the residents who practice love by embracing not only their own lives but also the lives of others."
Registration as an organ donation hopeful is a system where individuals express their intention to donate organs in the event of brain death or death and register this with the state.
In addition to awarding certificates of appreciation to organ donation hopefuls, the district provides benefits such as ▲ exemption from medical fees at Seodaemun-gu Public Health Center ▲ a 20% discount on parking fees at district-managed parking lots ▲ a 50% discount on fees for using district-run funeral facilities (for the first 15 years).
