National Jeongdong Theater to Hold Plaque Unveiling Ceremony on the 2nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] On the 2nd, the National Jeongdong Theater announced that it held a plaque ceremony with its new institution name at the National Jeongdong Theater in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The National Jeongdong Theater, an institution under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, received approval in March from the Ministry to change its name from Jeongdong Theater to National Jeongdong Theater. This event was held to officially commemorate and proclaim the change.
Through this event, the new institution name ‘National Jeongdong Theater’ plaque was introduced, and the new corporate identity (CI) was officially announced.
The plaque ceremony was attended by more than 30 key figures from the cultural and arts sectors, including Oh Young-woo, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Kim Cheol-ho, Director of the National Theater; Kim Young-woon, Director of the National Gugak Center; Kim Jong-gyu, Chairman of the Cultural Heritage National Trust; Lee Yu-ri, Chairperson of the Korea Musical Association; and musical actor Jung Young-joo.
Oh Young-woo, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "It is meaningful to attend this occasion where the National Jeongdong Theater, which has worked hard to promote performing arts for 26 years, officially unveils its new name. We will spare no policy support so that the National Jeongdong Theater, which is attempting various changes centered on founding art groups and planned performances, can enhance its status as a cultural space bridging the public and artists as well as a national performance venue."
Kim Hee-cheol, CEO of the National Jeongdong Theater, said, “The newly created CI of the National Jeongdong Theater contains the meaning of a space where the tension of creators and the expectations of the audience coexist, separated by the stage curtain. As a theater representing the nation, we will strive to provide excellent performance content to the local community and the public through various genres of performances including traditional arts.”
Meanwhile, starting this year, the National Jeongdong Theater is scheduled to expand its performance hall from 330 seats to a total of 930 seats, including a medium theater with 620 seats and a small theater with 310 seats, through a reconstruction project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Once this project is successfully completed, the annual number of performances, which was previously 300, is expected to double to 600, and the annual audience is expected to increase from 40,000 to 200,000.
