On the 1st, Seongbuk-gu celebrated the 3rd anniversary of the 7th local government term with the 'Quarantine Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony and Seongbukcheon Stream Cleanup Activity' at the Seongbukcheon Fountain Square. Ninety-nine residents and public officials from all 20 neighborhoods of Seongbuk-gu attended the event, with six quarantine vehicles and 40 portable disinfection devices deployed.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “The 7th local government term has been an important period proving the role of local governments protecting the frontline of life during an unprecedented crisis. Since the participating residents who voluntarily formed neighborhood quarantine teams to disinfect every alley and cooperated with the administration in responding to COVID-19 are the greatest driving force of local government, we prepared this special event, the 3rd anniversary quarantine volunteer corps launch ceremony.”
Kim ** (55), a resident of Jangwi 2-dong who attended the quarantine volunteer ceremony, said, “After the spread of COVID-19, whenever I saw the community center lights on late at night, I wanted to contribute somehow, which led me to participate in neighborhood quarantine activities.”
Following the 'Quarantine Volunteer Corps Launch Ceremony and Seongbukcheon Stream Cleanup Activity,' Seongbuk-gu will conduct joint public-private quarantine efforts in all 20 neighborhoods. Focused disinfection will be carried out in areas prone to infectious disease outbreaks and vulnerable locations such as churches and elderly care facilities, crowded public facilities like subway stations and bus stops, redevelopment zones and other vulnerable areas within the district, and areas requested by residents.
The quarantine volunteer corps activities will continue for three months until September 30.
Meanwhile, Seongbuk-gu plans to concentrate administrative efforts on protecting the safety and lives of 450,000 residents by overcoming COVID-19 early during the remaining period of the 7th local government term.
