View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] The Ministry of Justice has appointed Lee Jaeyu (55), Director of the Immigration Policy Division, as the successor to Cha Gyugeun (53), Head of the Immigration and Foreigners Policy Headquarters.
On the afternoon of the 1st, the Ministry of Justice announced the personnel appointment for the Head of the Immigration and Foreigners Policy Headquarters. The new director's official start date is July 2.
The new director entered public service in 1998 by passing the 41st Administrative Examination. He is recognized as an immigration policy expert, having served in key positions such as Director of the Incheon Immigration Office, Head of the Immigration Planning Division at the Ministry of Justice, and Director of the Nationality and Refugee Division. Notably, he is the first head appointed through internal promotion since the establishment of the Immigration Control Bureau (the predecessor of the Immigration and Foreigners Policy Headquarters) in 1970.
The Ministry of Justice stated, "We expect the new director to promote human rights-friendly immigration policies that resonate with the public and inclusive foreigner policies that respect diversity, based on his extensive field experience and expertise in immigration policy."
