Goheung-gun Ranks First in Jeonnam for Returning Farmers Population Inflow Last Year... 3 Consecutive Years of Increase
Goheung, Loved as the Most Preferred Area for Returnees to Farming Nationwide
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Goheung-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Song Gwi-geun) announced on the 1st that according to the statistics on returnees to farming and fishing villages jointly released by Statistics Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries on the 24th of last month, the number of returnees to farming was 180 last year (1st in Jeonnam), showing that Goheung is the number one place for returning to farming and fishing villages and a happy Goheung where people come back.
Goheung-gun has seen an increase in returnees to farming for three consecutive years, with 168 in 2018 and 176 in 2019.
The county stated that last year it was one of the regions with the highest number of people moving from cities to farming and fishing villages nationwide, and it is expected that the achievement of 3,000 households returning to their hometowns and villages, a pledge of the 7th local government administration, will be accelerated.
Since the 7th local government administration, to overcome population decline issues such as low birthrate and aging, the county established the Population Policy Division for the first time in the nation and has been implementing a five-year population policy plan (2018?2022) containing 50 promotion tasks under three major strategies: Goheung Love Youth Return, Child Happiness, and Returning to Hometowns and Villages (returning to farming and fishing). Over the past 2 years and 10 months, 3,057 households and 4,245 people have moved into Goheung, an influx equivalent to the population of Geumsan-myeon (4,340 people).
