Lee Nak-yeon on Candidate Unification: "If Thoughts Are Similar, We Can Unite... I Also Qualify"
On the 29th, Democratic Party Presidential Pre-Candidate Lee Nak-yeon Registered
"I Will Restore the Wounded Fairness"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Lee Nak-yeon, former leader of the Democratic Party and a presidential candidate, said about candidate unification, "It is desirable for people with similar thoughts to unite."
On the 29th, in an interview with SBS Radio, when asked about his thoughts on unification, Lee said, "If it is with those who share the will to establish the 4th Democratic government, I think we can unite," adding, "Of course, this applies to me as well."
However, regarding the possibility of an 'anti-Lee Jae-myung coalition,' he said, "Would anyone really have such a goal?"
When asked to name one good point and one regret about the Moon Jae-in administration, he said, "I highly evaluate the fact that the country's status has dramatically risen, but I regret the failures of some officials and the real estate issues."
Regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon, who declared his presidential bid that day, Lee said, "He has been a prosecutor all his life, but can he manage the state affairs with such limited experience?" He also commented on the 'Yoon Seok-youl X-file' controversy, saying, "I have never seen it, but generally speaking, it is the first time he has become the subject of an investigation when he was not before," and added, "Everything will be revealed."
Lee completed his registration as a Democratic Party presidential primary candidate that day.
Lee said, "As I take the first step in the long journey of the primary, my heart trembles and I feel overwhelmed." He then stated on Facebook and Twitter, "Since I started politics, I have believed that the greatest duty of a politician is to heal the pain of the people and give them hope," adding, "I will do that. I will warmly care for the struggling people and youth, and restore fairness that has been wounded."
He especially emphasized, "I will launch the 4th Democratic government following Presidents Kim Dae-jung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in. I will create a proud Republic of Korea."
