In the statement, the Staff Council strongly asserted that the meetings held without staff representatives and the vote reflection ratio decided in those meetings are invalid. They also strongly demanded that the upcoming 8th presidential election strictly adhere to basic laws and regulations and be conducted through a reasonable and fair process.
They explained, "Elections are a very noble and valuable act forming the foundation of a democratic society, and the promotion process should also proceed based on the consensus of members according to laws and principles. However, currently, our university's 'Promotion Committee' is far from such democratic procedures, being driven by the selfish claims and arbitrariness of professor members."
In particular, "Professor members, who make up half of the Promotion Committee members (12 out of 24), are using their numerical superiority to claim a vote reflection ratio of 'over 80% for professors,' citing the average of past presidential elections at other universities," they said.
They emphasized, "When their claims failed to gain the consent of other occupational group members of the Promotion Committee, they did not hesitate to state that the vote reflection ratio could be decided through the faculty meeting instead of the Promotion Committee."
They continued, "Staff members judged that the professor members themselves abandoned the grand cause of promoting the presidential election by gathering the will of all university members and resigned en masse."

The council stated, "In this situation, the chairperson forcibly held meetings while leaving the staff member position vacant despite it being a legal requirement for the Promotion Committee composition, and disgracefully decided the vote reflection ratio according to the professors' wishes," adding, "This is an illegal act that disregards both the 'Education Public Officials Appointment Decree' and the 'Regulations on the Selection of Candidates for President of Mokpo National Maritime University.'"
