Emergency as Luxembourg Prime Minister Tests Positive for COVID-19 After Attending EU Meeting
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, who recently attended the European Union (EU) summit, tested positive for COVID-19, triggering an alert among EU health authorities.
The spokesperson for the Luxembourg Prime Minister's Office stated that Prime Minister Bettel tested positive two days after attending the EU summit held in Brussels, Belgium, on the 24th and 25th.
The EU summit was attended by the leaders of the 27 EU member states, including Prime Minister Bettel, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
The spokesperson said that Prime Minister Bettel complied with health regulations such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing, and did not have close contact with any of the other 26 member state leaders.
The EU summit spokesperson posted on Twitter that Luxembourg authorities confirmed Bettel tested negative for COVID-19 just before the EU summit and did not have close contact with other member state leaders.
