Gas Corporation Operates First Hydrogen Charging Station in Gimhae
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Korea Gas Corporation announced on the 28th that it has established its first manufactured hydrogen refueling station (Gimhae Hydrogen Refueling Station) in Andong, Gimhae-si, Gyeongnam Province, and will operate it starting next month.
The Gimhae Hydrogen Refueling Station is the first in Gimhae-si and was built within the Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of the Gas Corporation.
The Ministry of Environment, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gimhae-si provided 3 billion KRW in support, and the Gas Corporation contributed 3 billion KRW, totaling 6 billion KRW in project costs. The facility is equipped to refuel 10 hydrogen passenger cars or 2 hydrogen buses per hour and operates year-round for user convenience. Starting from April next year, it will be possible to produce hydrogen gas on-site through hydrogen manufacturing equipment within the refueling station, transforming it into an 'On-Site manufactured hydrogen refueling station' that eliminates the need to purchase hydrogen externally.
By operating the Gimhae Hydrogen Refueling Station independently, the Gas Corporation has laid the groundwork to actively promote its hydrogen business alongside its main business of natural gas production and sales. A Gas Corporation official stated, "We will establish a hydrogen value chain encompassing hydrogen production, import, infrastructure construction, and distribution to firmly position ourselves as a leading hydrogen company."
