Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok "Promoting 10 Future Development Tasks Including Green Hydrogen Energy Islands"
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, stated on the 28th, "We have laid the foundation for Jeonnam's growth with the world's largest offshore wind power complex and the Korea Energy Technology University," adding, "We will promote 10 core future development tasks, including the Green Hydrogen Energy Island and the agriculture-livestock convergence complex."
On the same day, Governor Kim explained the remarkable achievements of the third anniversary of the 7th local government and the 10 core future vision tasks to the residents in real-time via SNS.
The achievements of the past three years, realizing a model Jeonnam where quarantine and economy harmonize, include ▲presenting future growth visions such as Clean Jeonnam Blue Economy and Jeonnam-type New Deal ▲massive expansion of major SOC including the Gyeongjeon Line high-speed railway ▲creation of the world's largest 8.2GW offshore wind power complex ▲establishment of a global energy new industry hub centered on Korea Energy Technology University ▲building a national base for vaccine and immunotherapy-centered bio industry.
Additionally, ▲revitalization of traditional core industries such as the eco-friendly intelligent industrial complex renovation in the Gwangyang Bay area and specialized shipbuilding industry development ▲enhancement of the value of agriculture and fisheries and stabilization of farmers' and fishermen's income through the nation's first introduction of agricultural public benefit subsidies ▲expansion of stay-type eco-tourism ▲practice of hopeful welfare for all residents ▲promotion of the New Millennium Talent Development Project and securing regional competitiveness by attracting the Korea Island Promotion Agency were also highlighted.
Governor Kim said, "As a future vision leading Jeonnam for 100 years, the promotion of 'Clean Jeonnam Blue Economy' and 'Jeonnam-type New Deal' resulted in the national treasury budget exceeding 7 trillion won for two consecutive years, and this year, for the first time ever, opened the era of a 10 trillion won budget."
He added, "The Namdo Marketplace, an agricultural and marine products shopping mall operated by the province, achieved 32.6 billion won last year, and we also succeeded in exporting our agricultural products by entering the US Amazon and Walmart markets," and "To improve the living conditions of fishing village residents, we operated the nation's first 1,000 won passenger ferry and ran a neighborhood welfare mobile team to solve daily inconveniences, achievements that contributed to winning the top national award in this year's government joint evaluation."
Governor Kim presented 10 core future tasks to actively respond to the era's changes such as climate change, post-COVID-19, and the 4th Industrial Revolution, to lead future development in Jeonnam.
The 10 core tasks include ▲achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 ▲fostering global energy new industries such as the creation of a Green Hydrogen Energy Island ▲leading the K-bio industry by attracting a national medical university ▲developing five advanced strategic industries including space launch vehicles, cloud data, new materials, eco-friendly ships, and future mobility ▲opening the Jeonnam SOC Renaissance with Muan International Airport KTX station and Jeolla Line high-speed rail.
Also included are ▲enhancing global competitiveness in agriculture with advanced agricultural convergence complexes like the Netherlands Food Valley-type ▲realizing profitable fisheries through the Kim Industry Innovation Cluster ▲becoming a world-class stay-type tourism and cultural hub ▲soaring as a central axis of Korea through ultra-wide cooperation such as the Pan-Huanghae national railway network, Yeonghonam East-West inland tourism belt, and Pan-Huanghae national railway networks from Mokpo to Gunsan and Mokpo to Jeju ▲developing representative international events of Korea such as the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, Jeonnam International Ink Biennale, and International Namdo Food Culture Festival.
Regarding the energy island, Governor Kim emphasized, "We will lead the renewable energy industry by building a 'Green Hydrogen Energy Island' without power lines that converts renewable energy into green hydrogen in connection with the world's largest offshore wind power complex."
