[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A man in his 40s, who was charged with stabbing his wife to death with a weapon in front of their elementary school-aged daughter, has given up his appeal. (Refer to Asia Economy June 19 article '[After the Verdict] "I want to live with my dad," the girl's wish, and restorative justice')
According to the legal community on the 28th, A (43), who was indicted on murder charges, did not submit a notice of appeal to the Seoul High Court Criminal Division 10 (Chief Judge Jaehee Lee), the appellate court, by the appeal deadline on the 24th. Since the prosecution also did not file an appeal, A's sentence was finalized the next day.
A filed an appeal after being sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first trial in February this year, claiming the sentence was too harsh. The appellate court dismissed A's appeal and sentenced him to 12 years in prison, the same as the original sentence, at the sentencing hearing held on the 17th of this month. At that time, the appellate court stated, "Murder is a crime that infringes upon the most precious value of human life and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances," adding, "Especially, killing a spouse bound by marriage fundamentally denies the legal and moral responsibilities based on the marital relationship."

Earlier, A was arrested and indicted on charges of killing his wife B (40) by stabbing her multiple times with a weapon after hitting her face with his fist during an argument at their home on September 7 last year. Immediately after the incident, A surrendered by reporting to the police through their elementary school-aged daughter. During the trial, the daughter pleaded for leniency for A, saying, "Please let me live with my dad," but both the first and second trial courts rejected her request.
