Namwon-si Establishes 'Contactless E-Book Lending System'
[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters] Reporter Jeong Young-kwon=Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 28th that it has established a personalized content provision system and a non-face-to-face e-book lending system for citizens at public libraries in response to the COVID-19 period.
Last year, the city operated a smart experience library for children and minors, and this year it expanded the service to middle and high school students and the general public.
The city has completed the installation of Book Live kiosks that allow e-book lending using QR codes and has started the book lending service.
The smart experience library is a service that allows access to a variety of high-quality educational video content, which anyone can use for free on the city’s homepage without a separate login.
It consists of 2,400 experience videos across 16 subject areas, providing diverse and vivid experiential opportunities.
Previously, it was operated only with videos for elementary students, but now it has expanded to include videos for middle and high school students, allowing use across a wider range of ages and fields.
The Book Live kiosk is a service where users install an app on their smartphones, select the desired book, and simply scan the QR code to borrow e-books and audiobooks.
The kiosks were installed at the entrance of the MG Saemaeul Geumgo headquarters and the Children and Youth Library, considering foot traffic and accessibility. The usage hours are from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., allowing citizens to borrow e-books anytime and read conveniently anywhere.
A city official said, “We expect that various non-face-to-face library services will provide an opportunity for citizens exhausted by COVID-19 to enjoy cultural life and nourish their minds.”
