Choo Mi-ae: "Disaster Relief Funds Should Be Given to 'All Citizens'... Livelihood Reservoir Depleting"
"Disaster Relief Funds: Reviving Private Consumption and Small Businesses for a Virtuous Cycle of Increased Tax Revenue"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] Former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, who is running as a presidential candidate, stated on the 27th, "Disaster relief funds should be provided to all citizens nationwide."
On this day, former Minister Choo posted on Facebook, "Now that the reservoir of people’s livelihoods is depleted, it is right to stimulate domestic consumption by providing disaster relief funds to all citizens nationwide," asserting this point.
She explained, "An expanded fiscal policy to stimulate people’s consumption is urgently required," adding, "Fiscal input is government investment, and the people have the right to demand investment where it is truly needed." She then criticized the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which opposes providing disaster relief funds to all citizens, saying, "The fiscal authorities of a democratic government have the duty to serve the urgent demands of the people, not the rights of fiscal officials."
Former Minister Choo emphasized, "Just as public taxes were used to support companies in difficulty, government finances must be boldly injected when the reservoir of domestic demand is dry," and added, "Disaster relief funds are money injected into the reservoir of people’s livelihoods and flow into local neighborhoods, so unlike money going into real estate or stocks, they do not pose a risk of causing inflation."

She also stated, "The division between 'universal or selective' by the government and political circles stems from misunderstandings about different policy goals," and explained, "This is not a controversy over fiscal policies like disaster relief funds but concerns welfare policies. For vulnerable groups who find it difficult to find jobs due to business restrictions, universal welfare and universal social services should be expanded, while focused welfare should also provide more intensive individual protection."
