KT Supports Metaverse Senior Dementia Prevention Physical Activities
KT Supports Physical and Cognitive Fitness Activities for Seniors through RealCube
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 27th that it supported dementia prevention activities for seniors using its metaverse service ‘RealCube’.
This senior dementia prevention activity was prepared to support physical activities for seniors amid restrictions on outdoor activities due to COVID-19. KT conducted simultaneous physical activities using RealCube network content at senior centers equipped with RealCube in Gangnam-gu Senior Plaza, Daegu Jung-gu Senior Welfare Center, Yongsan-gu Dementia Safety Center, and Dongdaemun-gu Dementia Safety Center.
The RealCube used in the senior dementia prevention activities is a mixed reality (MR) service that allows users to experience a virtual environment without ‘virtual reality (VR) devices (HMD)’ or ‘augmented reality (AR) glasses’ by linking responsive technology and sensors capable of location and motion recognition in real spaces.
For this metaverse dementia prevention physical activity, five types of game-based content were provided to make it easy and fun for participants to experience. In particular, the metaverse content was designed to simultaneously promote cognitive development and physical fitness, enabling activities that enhance both physical strength and cognitive ability.
KT is conducting research on MR solutions and content for dementia prevention, including cognitive ability and brain development, in collaboration with specialized institutions. RealCube is being provided nationwide to senior institutions, welfare facilities, and child facilities. Some dementia safety centers are utilizing KT’s RealCube to prevent dementia and alleviate symptoms among residents.
