Gathering Ban Until July 2... Strict Measures Including Prosecution and Compensation Claims for Violations

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] In Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, 33 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in a single day on the 26th.

According to the city health authorities on that day, the sources of infection were 5 related to karaoke rooms, 2 related to a language institute in Ilsandong-gu, 3 from contact with acquaintances, 2 from family transmission, 2 from contact with confirmed cases in other regions, and 19 others are under investigation.

By residence, there were 10 cases in Deogyang-gu, 14 in Ilsandong-gu, 6 in Ilsanseo-gu, and 3 from other regions. Additionally, one Goyang citizen was confirmed positive for COVID-19 at a health center in another region (Bupyeong-gu).

Regarding the language institute in Ilsandong-gu, two family members of students were newly confirmed positive on that day, bringing the cumulative total to 26 cases (2 instructors, 22 students, and 2 family members). Besides this, 5 cases were confirmed related to karaoke rooms in Deogyang-gu: 3 at karaoke room A and 2 at karaoke room B.

As of 4 p.m. on that day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Goyang City was 3,575, with 3,433 confirmed cases among Goyang citizens (3,338 domestic infections and 95 overseas infections).

Meanwhile, as COVID-19 cases among karaoke room workers and users have recently increased in the area, the city issued an emergency administrative order to prohibit gatherings at karaoke rooms as of 6 p.m. on that day.

Karaoke rooms located in Goyang City must comply with the gathering ban administrative order for 7 days from that day until 24:00 on July 2. Violations will result in legal action (a fine of up to 3 million KRW) or administrative fines.
