Energy Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry to be Established in August... Government Organization Act Passes Judiciary Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] It appears that a dedicated Vice Minister for Energy will be newly established within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in August.
According to the National Assembly and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 25th, the government organization law amendment bill to establish the Energy Vice Minister position passed the full meeting of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly that afternoon.
If the amendment bill is finally passed at the plenary session on the 29th, it will be enforced one month after promulgation. The timing suggests that the new position will be established in early August.
Previously, during the Roh Moo-hyun administration in 2005, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy introduced a multiple vice minister system and created the position of Second Vice Minister. However, under the current administration, the Second Vice Minister position was abolished and a Trade Negotiation Headquarters (at the vice minister level) was established to handle trade affairs exclusively.
