RaonSecure Wins Contract to Build Mobile Driver's License Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] IT integrated security and authentication company RaonSecure is set to establish the first mobile driver's license service in Korea.
RaonSecure announced on the 24th that it has won the 'Mobile Driver's License Service Establishment Project' from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation by forming a consortium with LG CNS.
The mobile driver's license is a digital form of national ID that allows a driver's license issued by the National Police Agency to be stored and used on a smartphone.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety sought to introduce mobile IDs to implement an integrated online and offline identity verification model, replacing the dual system of offline physical IDs and online certificate-based identity verification. In this process, they adopted a blockchain-based Decentralized Identity (DID) method, a mobile ID technology that offers high security and convenience while addressing the issues of the existing centralized identity verification system.
RaonSecure will provide DID technology for applying, issuing, and verifying mobile driver's licenses in this project. Using the DID platform 'OmniOne,' it offers identity verification services that combine FIDO biometric authentication with blockchain DID technology.
OmniOne has been recognized for its DID technology and stability through extensive experience in public and financial sectors, including mobile government IDs. It serves as the foundational platform for the non-profit foundation 'ADI Association,' which leads global DID standards, and the DID consortium 'DID Alliance.'
