[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Seven Eleven announced on the 24th that it has launched 'Juicy Macarons,' a collaboration with Lotte Confectionery’s long-selling gums 'Juicy Fresh,' 'Fresh Mint,' and 'Spearmint.'
Juicy Macarons are a product consisting of three pieces, each flavored with Juicy Fresh, Fresh Mint, and Spearmint. Using the original gum’s flavoring, the authentic gum taste has been recreated in macaron form. Seven Eleven described it as "a product that satisfies both the eyes and palate with bright colors and a sweet, refreshing taste." The price is 3,800 KRW.
As the convenience store dessert market continues to grow, uniquely distinctive products are capturing consumers’ attention and gaining popularity. According to Seven Eleven, dessert category sales increased by 23.2% year-on-year through June 23 of this year. In particular, macaron sales rose 45.7% during the same period.
It is analyzed that the success is due to items that resonate with the MZ generation and align with current trends. Currently, the most popular dessert at Seven Eleven is the 'Mint Chocolate Macaron' (3,500 KRW). The newly coined term 'Mincho-dan' (Mint Chocolate Faction) reflects the strong fandom for mint chocolate among young consumers, resulting in high sales. The mint chocolate macaron, released at the end of last month, ranked first in overall dessert sales at Seven Eleven as of June.
The 'Glutinous Corn Macaron' (3,800 KRW), released on the 16th, also faithfully captures the flavor of glutinous corn ice cream. Real corn kernels are included, allowing consumers to enjoy the texture of chewing corn. It gained great popularity upon release, ranking third in dessert sales just one week after launch.
