View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Im Jae-su) announced on the 23rd that it conducted the '2021 Civil-Government-Military Joint Maritime Pollution Response Drill' on the 22nd at Daebul Pier, Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, to improve on-site command capabilities for marine pollution prevention following an oil tanker collision accident at sea.
Hosted by Mokpo Maritime Police Station, this drill was carried out with the participation of about 120 personnel from 10 organizations and companies, including Jeollanam-do Provincial Office, the 3rd Fleet Command of the Navy, Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation, Korea National Park Service, Korea Marine Rescue Association (Jeonnam Western Branch), and Samhak Marine Autonomous Pollution Response Team, while strictly adhering to COVID-19 quarantine guidelines.
On the day of the drill, 21 vessels including patrol ships and pollution control boats from related agencies, as well as 4 oil recovery machines and 340 meters of oil fences, were deployed.
The drill simulated a large-scale oil spill at sea caused by a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo ship, focusing on the entire range of marine pollution accident response techniques such as accident occurrence, sea area control, breach sealing, oil transfer, spread prevention, and oil recovery, aiming to strengthen accident response capabilities.

A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, “To prepare for marine oil spill accidents, civil, government, and military sectors will continue to conduct joint response drills to protect the lives and property of the public and to maintain a clean marine environment.”
