[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The law firm Yulchon has expanded and reorganized its existing Serious Accident Punishment Act task force to establish the "Yulchon Serious Accident Center," which is actively operating and attracting attention.
The Yulchon Serious Accident Center is composed of about 30 experts, including specialized lawyers and labor attorneys in related fields such as industrial safety, serious accidents, criminal law, real estate, and construction, as well as advisors and professional committee members with diverse experience accumulated from the Ministry of Employment and Labor headquarters and frontline labor offices.
They perform various tasks related to the Serious Accident Punishment Act and overall industrial safety. Representative activities include compliance consulting such as establishing safety and health management systems, measures and responses after serious accidents occur, industrial safety consulting and education, and responses to special labor inspections.
Kang Seok-hoon, Yulchon’s lead attorney, explained, "Recently, there has been a rapid increase in corporate advisory demand regarding serious accidents and industrial safety, mainly in construction, manufacturing, and logistics sectors, leading to the formal launch of the center."
Park Young-man, who joined as co-head of the Yulchon Serious Accident Center after serving as Director of the Industrial Accident Prevention and Compensation Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Employment and Labor until February, advised, "Based on advisory experience, establishing a serious accident response system requires consideration of each company's unique circumstances, so it takes more time than expected. Companies should hasten their preparations in anticipation of the Serious Accident Punishment Act enforcement in January next year."
The Serious Accident Punishment Act will be enforced starting January 27 next year.
The Act requires management officials to personally manage corporate serious accident risks and establish a safety and health compliance system (a regulatory compliance system).
