hy, BTS Package ‘Hy Cold Brew’ Obtains Halal Certification... Targeting Overseas Markets
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Distribution specialist company hy announced on the 22nd that it has completed Halal certification for ‘Hy Cold Brew Americano (hereinafter Hy Cold Brew)’ and will expand its overseas exports.
hy obtained Halal certification for Hy Cold Brew from KMF (Korea Muslim Federation). Halal is a certification granted to foods produced and processed according to Islamic law, and it is an essential factor for targeting countries with Islamic cultures such as the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
KMF Halal certification is one of the world’s top three Halal certification bodies. It holds equal validity in Korea as well as in ▲Malaysia ▲Singapore ▲Taiwan ▲Thailand. hy is currently pursuing KMF certification for two types of lattes in addition to the Americano. Furthermore, it plans to obtain the 'MUI' certification to target Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
Hy Cold Brew, featuring BTS packaging, has consistently received love calls in overseas markets along with the popularity of BTS.
Starting with 910,000 units in its first export year in 2019, it sold 2.7 million units last year alone, recording a growth rate of about 200%. Sales from January to April 2021 reached 2.7 million units, already surpassing last year’s total export volume. With this Halal certification as a milestone, hy has established an export base in the Southeast Asian region, which accounts for more than 60% of the global Muslim population, so the growth trend is expected to accelerate further.
Kang Dongwan, Team Leader of hy Multi-Sales Team 2, said, “The expansion of ‘Hy Coffee’ in overseas markets is a new challenge to leap forward as a distribution specialist company hy,” adding, “We will promote the status of K-food through product localization strategies and active marketing.”
