Gyeonggi-do to Implement 'Construction Skilled Worker Grading System' Starting July
Career, Qualification, Education, and Training Standards, Assignment of Functional Grades: Elementary, Middle, High, and Special Levels
[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 22nd that it will promote the "Gyeonggi Province-type Construction Skilled Worker Grading Pilot Project" starting in July to ensure the practical employment stability and rights improvement of construction workers.
According to the province on the day, the "Construction Skilled Worker Grading System" is a system that assigns skill grades?beginner, intermediate, advanced, and special grade?based on criteria such as career, qualifications, and education/training of construction workers, in accordance with the "Act on Improvement of Employment of Construction Workers" implemented since May.
The province will pilot the project this year targeting 10 construction sites commissioned by Gyeonggi Province and its affiliated public institutions, reflecting the voices of construction workers on site.
It plans to fully apply the "Construction Worker Electronic Card System," which systematically manages career records by utilizing the computerized system for recording construction workers' attendance, to the target project.
In addition, the province intends to prevent omissions and non-payments by directly paying the "retirement reserve fund (6,500 KRW per person per day)" that employers used to pay monthly for construction workers, on behalf of the ordering agency.
