Suncheon-si, Training for Tour Guides to Foster Railway Workers' Village Narrators
History and Cultural Interpretation of the Railroad Workers' Village Created Directly by Citizens
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 21st that it will conduct citizen capacity-building education to train tour guides for the Railroad Officials' Village in a total of 10 sessions until August.
This education consists of basic lectures such as the history of Korean railroads, the history of Suncheon Railroad Officials' Village, and exploration of village resources, as well as practical training including writing village tour scripts, demonstration of tours, and methods of promoting the village using SNS.
The 20 trainees plan to create unique individual tour scripts based on basic knowledge of the tourist resources and historical and cultural characteristics of the Railroad Officials' Village.
Only those who complete more than 80% of the total 10 sessions will be qualified to apply as tour guides for the Railroad Officials' Village next year.
A city official said, "We will do our best in the education so that the tour guides can take pride in their role by directly communicating with tourists about the historical and cultural resources of the Railroad Officials' Village."

Meanwhile, since 2018, the city has been operating a training course for tour guides of the Railroad Officials' Village, producing 32 graduates to date. This year, seven guides were selected and assigned to the Railroad Village Museum and Railroad Culture Experience Center established within the Railroad Officials' Village.
