[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] A man in his 50s who called 112 more than 300 times for unnecessary reasons has been ordered to pay damages to the police.
According to the Gyeongnam Police Agency on the 21st, the Changwon District Court recently ruled in a damages lawsuit filed by the police against Mr. A (58), ordering him to pay 5,793,370 KRW.
Specifically, this amount includes 390,370 KRW in damages incurred by the state and 5,400,000 KRW for mental damages suffered by 34 police officers, totaling 5,793,370 KRW.
From September 7 to 23 of last year, Mr. A made 331 calls to 112, using abusive language and obstructing other emergency reports.
It was confirmed that he, dissatisfied with previous punishments for false reports, verbally abused the police officers with phrases like "Come again and arrest me," causing mental distress to 34 officers.
Mr. A was also prosecuted and fined for the same case.
The police have been consistently punishing false reports, handling 263 cases in 2019 and 233 cases in 2020 through summary trials or criminal charges.
