From August, Entry Restrictions on Namsan 'Tour Buses Passing Through'... Must Use 'Electric Buses'
From Next Month 1st, 'Green Circulation Bus' Connecting Namsan Park and Downtown to Expand Operation to Reduce Waiting Time
Route 03 Partially Merged with Route 04... 3 Additional Buses Deployed on Namsan-Serving Routes 02 and 04
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Seoul City announced on the 21st that starting in August, tourists visiting Namsan Park by group tour buses must get off at Namsan Yejang Park and use the eco-friendly electric low-floor bus called the ‘Green Circulation Bus.’
According to Seoul City, from August, the city will completely ban the entry of ‘diesel tour buses’ that emit air pollutants into Namsan Park. Following the existing restriction on grade 5 diesel vehicles, all diesel tour buses, regardless of grade, will be prohibited from entering.
Seoul City expects this measure to resolve inconveniences experienced by citizens visiting Namsan Park, such as long-term parking and stopping of tour buses at the Namsan summit, noise, exhaust fumes, and fine dust caused by idling, and movement difficulties due to encroachment on sidewalks and bicycle paths.
Additionally, Seoul City will expand the operation of the eco-friendly electric low-floor ‘Green Circulation Bus,’ which circulates through Namsan Park, starting from the 1st of next month to allow citizens and tourists to use Namsan Park more comfortably. Seoul City will integrate the currently operating Green Circulation Bus routes 03 and 04, and increase the number of buses on routes 02 and 04 to increase the frequency of service, thereby reducing intervals and waiting times.
Seoul City anticipates that with the recovery of travel and tourism after COVID-19, the influx of domestic and international tourists visiting Namsan will increase. Accordingly, the city plans to add more Green Circulation Buses to expand convenient public transportation infrastructure.
Baek Ho, Director of Urban Transportation at Seoul City, said, “To operate Namsan Park as a cleaner and clearer eco-friendly park, we expect to create synergistic effects by implementing various and complex improvement projects such as restricting diesel tour bus entry within Namsan Park, constructing transfer parking lots, and operating the Green Circulation Bus.” He added, “Seoul City will continue to establish an eco-friendly transportation paradigm centered on people and public transportation.”
