[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated about Yoon Seok-yeol, a leading opposition presidential candidate and former Prosecutor General, "Because he cannot stand confidently and resorts to cautious politics, the phrase 'Yoon Seok-yeol's X-file' has become more addictive regardless of its actual existence."
On the 21st, Jeong posted on his Facebook, "I do not know the existence of Yoon Seok-yeol's X-file," adding, "If it exists, I can roughly guess what kind of contents it might contain."
He added, "Anyone with a slight interest in political affairs would probably imagine something along those lines."
He continued, "For several days now, the ruling and opposition parties have been exchanging ping-pong arguments without the actual substance being revealed. Yoon’s side seems to be dismissing it as not worth responding to."
He wrote, "There is a saying that a rumor without feet travels a thousand miles. The speed of imagination is faster than the actual reality. Abstraction stimulates imagination more than still life."
Jeong also said, "It is a topic with high volatility and transmission power," adding, "Even the spokesperson resigned, so the fun of imagination increases. It is all self-inflicted."
He further stated, "I expect Yoon Seok-yeol will not last long. I think there is a high possibility it will end rather anticlimactically," adding, "He should hold on a bit longer."
Meanwhile, the so-called 'Yoon Seok-yeol X-file' controversy was triggered on the 25th of last month when Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, mentioned, "We are gathering verification materials related to former Prosecutor General Yoon."
Also, political commentator Jang Seong-cheol, director of the Gonggam and Debate Policy Center, revealed on the 19th via his social media that he had obtained the so-called 'X-file' containing suspicions related to Yoon and his in-laws. He said, "I recently obtained some documented files summarizing suspicions about former Prosecutor General Yoon, his wife, and mother-in-law," adding, "There is no way to verify whether the suspicions are true. However, some facts were known, and some rumors had been heard."
